Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area

Admiral Lake Trail Hike
Join the Chebucto Hiking Club for a moderate 10 km group hike along the Admiral Lake Trail. This hike is suitable for all ages and is rated 4C - a good deal of significant hill climbing and significant part of the hike takes place on somewhat difficult terrain (rocky, rooted paths). Hike will last approximately 3-4 hours. Please bring snacks, lots of water, lunch and hiking boots. We will meet at the trailhead parking lot in Musquodoboit Harbour. Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary

Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary Tour
The Nova Scotia Bird Society invites you to join them in a tour of the sanctuary which is home to some of Nova Scotia's more elusive waterfowl species as well as many other birds. We will attempt to identify them by sight and sound. Suitable for all ages. Wear appropriate footwear for wet conditions and dress for weather conditions. Bring water and insect repellent and remember your binoculars. Meet at 9 AM at the Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary parking lot. Uisge Ban Falls Provincial Park

Uisge Ban Falls Walk
Join the Cape Breton Island Hoppers Volkssport Club for a 5 & 10 km guided group walk along the North Baddeck River to Uisge Ban Falls. This is a non-competitive walking event for fun, fitness, and friendship. Participants are asked to remain with the group. Wear good hiking boots and dress for weather conditions. Bring a walking stick, water, and a light snack (trail mix!). Meet at the picnic park at Uisge Ban Falls Provincial Park at 715 North Branch Road, Baddeck Forks. Volunteer Day
An exciting opportunity for the wildlife park and for you! Do you enjoy working outside, interacting with people, or making nature crafts with children? If you have skills in sharing nature whether it is plant, animal, wetland or ecosystem knowledge we need your help to contribute to the visitor experience at the wildlife park. You may contribute by helping us remove alien plant species from the wetlands, or enhancing park drama through puppet shows! There are many opportunities to choose from! If you are interested in learning more please come to this volunteer orientation day. Everyone will get a sample of the types of volunteering we are offering and you decide if donating time to the park something that you would like to pursue. Bring water, snacks, hiking boots, hat, sun block, and insect repellent. Pre-registration is required. Sponsored by the NS Department of Natural Resources. World Walking Day
Join the Dartmouth Volksmarch Club on World Walking Day for an easy 5 km or 10 km guided walk at Porters Lake Provincial Park and area. Suitable for all ages. The walk will take place on well-groomed park trails with very little more difficult terrain and some pavement walking. Wear walking boots or shoes and dress for weather conditions. Bring water and a snack. We will meet at the parking lot entrance at 1160 West Porters Lake Road to sign-in. Please note that there is a $1 event fee. Fairy Shrimps, Spring Flowers and Birds
Join Naturalist Jim Wolford for an interpretive walk on the Jodrey Trail to a seasonal pond that contains the rare and beautiful fairy shrimp. Other pond life, spring flowers, and birds will also be seen or heard. This very easy nature walk is suitable for adults and children who are capable of the distance (approximately 2 km). Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots and bring water. Binoculars, cameras, magnifying glasses, and field guides are also recommended, if you have them. Waterfalls of Nuttby to Gully Lake Trail System
Join the Cobequid Eco-Trails Society for either a 5 or 12 km hike featuring 'Waterfalls of Nuttby to Gully Lake Trail System'. Starting at the Kemptown Road Trailhead we will explore sections of Portage Trail, Sandy Cope Trail and Willard Kitchener MacDonald Trail, viewing Donald's Falls. The 12 km group will include Meguma and Willard's Falls passing by Gully Lake. Along with ferns and lichens, spring flowers should be abundant. This is a guided hike suitable for those 12+ years of age. You will be asked to sign a waiver and are required to stay with the group. The leader has the authority and discretion to alter routes as conditions require. Wear hiking boots and dress for a variety of weather conditions (i.e. in layers). Bring water, high energy snacks, and a lunch for those who are hiking the 12 km route). Join local birder Verna Higgins for a 2-3 hour walk on the trails of the Natural Resources Education Centre McCurdy Woodlot in Middle Musquodoboit to see and hear late migrant and resident song birds. This a great walk for the entire family. Please dress for the weather and don't forget waterproof footwear, insect repellant, water, snacks and binoculars (if you have them).
